Death to non-believers

If you were anticipating a discussion of Islam, think again. I'm referring to a video game that was released in 2006 that I'd never heard of titled "Left Behind: Eternal forces." In that game the player's mission is to kill or convert non-believers left on Earth after the rapture while the avatar screamed "Praise the lord" when a non-believer was killed. It actually sounds kind of fun until you realize that the game is obviously aimed at children and is yet another thinly veiled attempt by fundamentalist Christians to indoctrinate impressionable youth with limited reasoning capabilities into Christianity at as young an age as possible, a fact that garnered national attention with the release of the movie "Jesus Camp," (a really interesting movie that I highly recommend, by the way). I think it's important to remind people of stuff like this because all too often non-religious people seem to fall into an indifferent attitude about religion in America because they feel like it has a kind of net-neutral impact on the citizenry. While it is important to note that many religious sects may have a neutral impact, it is important to stay vigilant and understand that there are probably as many, if not more, sects that are extremely harmful, but are capitalizing on our complacency. In that sense no religious group is truly neutral in the sense that their teachings and stances in many ways sanction the more radical sects.
